Children petting a dog….teach them how to be safe

Children often get excited when they see a dog and want to pet it.  It is important though to teach them proper safety when interacting with pets.  They should also ask the owner to pet the dog first and then let the dog sniff their hand.  Children should also be taught about the importance of being gentle and not pulling on ears or tails.  They should also know that if a dog is growling or showing its teeth that they should leave it alone.  Children should never be left unsupervised while playing with pets either.  By teaching children all of these things they can stay safe and enjoy the companionship of pets!
